The vibrant and fashionable port of Fiskardo, on the island of Kefalonia, was an important trading place from Roman times and was known as Panormos by ancient Greeks.  After the Norman raids against the Byzantines in 1084, the harbour village was named Fiskardo.

Now Fiskardo is a stylish modern-day destination for visitors to the Ionian Islands - including film stars, famous models, pop stars and celebrities, who can be spotted enjoying lunch or dinner at a harbourside taverna or partying in a local bar.  We recommend four of the best places to visit when in Fiskardo:

  1. Tassia – Traditional Greek Cuisine - “where taste is the dominant sense…”

For the 30 years, Tassia’s restaurant has been a major attraction for anyone visiting Fiskardo. This celebrated restaurant, occupying a prime position with the magnificent Fiskardo bay as a backdrop, specialises in Greek traditional cuisine and is famous around the world for its fresh seafood – including its applauded lobster pasta dish and traditional secret recipe for Kefalonian meat pie. Tassia’s fans – many Hollywood stars among them – keep returning to the place where they will be warmly greeted and served a gastronomic feast.

  1. Melina Pâtisserie

Having spent 16 years working in the Tassia kitchen, Takis Karachristos set up a patisserie with his wife, Melani, so that they could indulge in their love of the sweetest of pastries and beautifully decorated sweet delicacies.   Melina is impossible to miss located at the bay front and immediately next to the Dodoni Ice Cream Parlour.

  1. Dodoni Ice Cream Parlour

In 1998, Panayis Dendrinos brought the Dodoni Ice Cream Parlour franchise to Fiskardo.

Dodoni is Greece’s most famous ice-cream made exclusively from pure, fresh ingredients without preservatives, offering over 30 delicious flavours of ice-cream, coffee and sweets. Customers can either enjoy their ice cream while sitting by the sea, take it with them on a stroll around the village, or return on board their boat with a specially provided Dodoni cool bag.

  1. Gaeta-Art-Cafe-Bar

In 2006, Panayis Dendrinos restored one of the oldest and most beautiful buildings in Fiscardo and created one of the most iconic meeting places - the Gaèta Art Café-Bar.  Gaèta is a famous name in Fiscardo. The original Gaèta was the wife of Norman conqueror Roberto Giscardo who gave his name to the village.

Gaèta Art Café-Bar is located in a prime position on the harbour, next to Tassia’s Restaurant and just a few feet away from the moorings, where entertainment is free watching the mooring techniques of some of the less experienced sailing crews.

At Gaèta top barmen and an international team of waiters provide everything from delicious cocktails to Fiskardo’s best cup of coffee.  This café bar balances a sophisticated yet simple style, very much in keeping with the traditional Venetian theme of Fiskardo harbour. It’s the ideal place to relax enjoy morning coffee, an afternoon refreshment, or pre-dinner cocktail as the sun sets. Later in the evening, the bar is a popular venue for locals and visitors alike. With music, great drinks and traditional Greek hospitality this is the perfect bar to round off a night in Fiskardo.
