Steeped in mythical history being the birth place of Homer’s hero Odysseus, Ithaca is everything a Greek island should be.  It is the smallest of the Ionian Islands - characteristically lush, green, full of natural beauty and charm.

Visitors can discover quaint villages in all parts of the island.  On the southern side, the main capital and port of Vathy on the south has strict building regulations to ensure it retains its traditional houses painted in specific shades; the bustling harbour and paved streets are perfect for people watching and relaxing.   Kioni is 24km north west of the capital and nestled on the mountain slopes with its own pretty harbour.  Frikes lies 19km north of Vathy; the picturesque fishing village retains its authenticity despite being a popular tourist spot from where one can take the ferry to Lefkada.

Like the rest of the Ionians, Ithaca is blessed with stunning stretches of beaches and verdant coastline.  Gidaki beach is more secluded beach to seek out.  Sarakiniko, Filiatro and Agios Ioannis are the best beaches on the island.

Located just above Agios Ioannis beach is Villa Itha, on the market at €2.25m.  A charming and characterful property that commands a dramatic view across the Cephalonia Strait; situated amidst olive groves and ancient oaks.  Currently used as a successful yoga retreat, the villa could easily become a private residence with a main house accommodating 12 and further additional stone houses in the established gardens - perfect for summer guests or teenage family members.  The relaxing sun-drenched terraces, shady nooks, far-reaching sea views and idyllic rural setting all capture the true essence of Ithaca’s mythical past and the peaceful, magical atmosphere of the island today.
