This month many mourn the untimely passing of Dr Michael Mosley while holidaying on the Greek island of Symia, within the Dodecanese islands. It is painfully ironic that in the same month of June 2024, a new AI-powered safety app has been launched by the Hellenic Ministry of Tourism https://mintour.gov.gr/en/archiki-english/.
mAiGreece https://apps.apple.com/gr/app/maigreece/id6503139477 has been developed in conjunction with the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance. The pioneering chatbot app is intended to enhance the travel experience for anyone visiting anywhere in Greece.
New App has Safety and Accessibility Features
How does it work?
On arriving in Greece, holidaymakers and visitors will receive a text message to download the app from their mobile network provider – Vodafone and COSMOTE are the most usual.
The mAiGreece app is free and available to download in the App Store and Play Store. It has been created to be easy-to-use and accessible in multiple languages for all nationalities.
What does it do?
It has been created to be a helpful mobile travel aid as you explore the Greek islands or mainland Greece. The app offers information on local services, suggests attraction and historic landmarks to visit to encourage tourists to have the most relaxed and enjoyable visit to Greece - it’s like a digital guide book.
How does it help in an emergency?
Importantly, this new chatbot app provides health and safety information. It includes an emergency feature with a ‘112’ button, Greece’s emergency phone number. When the button is pressed this automatically sends your location via text to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.
Greece awarded the highest safety ranking
Greece is ranked as a ‘level-one’ destination according to the U.S. State Department and the world Global Peace Index rankings also give Greece a strong ranking because of its low crime rate.
To put Greece’s ‘level-one’ ranking into perspective, this is higher than the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, who are ranked as a ‘level-two’ destination. Greece is deemed safer than these countries and has been awarded the same status as Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Japan.
Piers Williams, CEO at The Ionian Collection comments: “The Ionian islands have always been a relaxing safe haven for permanent residents, holiday home owners and international visitors. They offer a friendly welcome from locals and a safe environment – ideal for families, to enjoy the beautiful beaches and stunning natural landscape. Obviously being sensible and taking precautions in the sunshine and exploring unfamiliar terrain is no different than anywhere. Greece is a place where you do not have to worry about anything – just enjoy the island experience.”
